Job Descriptions For Volunteer Positions

The volunteer must have a good understanding of confidentiality and possess good organizational skills. This is a requirement for all positions.

OFFICE SUPPORT (Clerical / Secretarial training)

Volunteers will work with staff members on general filing, pulling reports, separating paperwork and organizing and distributing paperwork or files. There may be light typing, photocopying, creating labels, setting up files, data entry and help answering telephone calls. There also could be some victim and/or witness contact.

The volunteer should have the ability to handle multiple tasks and help maintain office order and procedures.

FRONT OFFICE/RECEPTION (Clerical / Telephone training)

Volunteers will greet and announce visitors, answer and direct all incoming calls, and take and send telephone messages via computer. The volunteer must be able to handle a multi-line telephone system and must have the ability to distribute incoming and outgoing mail.

The volunteer should be friendly and enjoy a variety of people from diverse backgrounds. The volunteer should have the ability to handle multiple telephone calls and tasks simultaneously.

DATA ENTRY (Clerical / computer training)

Volunteers will perform basic data entry tasks and update records and databases. The volunteer may answer telephones as needed.

The volunteer should have some typing experience, have accurate data entry skills and some general knowledge of office procedures.

WITNESS ASSISTANCE (note taking and translation)

Volunteers will provide general assistance to Assistant District Attorneys in our misdemeanor and felony divisions. Duties are varied and may include: note taking during witness interviews, calling witnesses who are non-English speaking and translation assistance during witness interviews.

Volunteers who have the ability to speak and/or read Spanish are especially needed to provide assistance to those victims and witnesses who speak Spanish.
