Family Justice Division
The Family Justice Division consists of six departments: Crimes
Against Children; Domestic Violence; Juvenile Law; Protective
Orders; Adult Protective Services; and Child Protective Services
in cases affecting the parent-child relationship. Under the direction
of the District Attorney, these departments were combined under
one "umbrella" unit in order to more efficiently serve
the public and to more aggressively and successfully prosecute
these types of cases.
Mary Scanlon, Chief of the Family
Justice Division, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English
Writing and English Literature from Saint Mary's College of Notre
Dame, Indiana in 1983 and her Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist
University School of Law in Dallas in 1986. She began working at
the Collin County District Attorney's Office in October 1986. Now,
almost nineteen years later, she still works as an Assistant District
Attorney where she supervises six departments, nine attorneys, four
investigators and four secretaries. Ms. Scanlon has prosecuted almost
every type of case, including four capital murder cases. She has
been board certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal
Specialization since 1999. She is a frequent speaker at community
events and has lectured at various conferences and seminars as well
as at numerous trainings for local police agencies and groups. In
2000 she was named Outstanding Legal Advocate by the Rape Crisis
Center of Collin County.
