Special Crimes Division – Criminal SectionThe Criminal Section of the Special Crimes Division of the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office was created to assume responsibility for a broad spectrum of “white collar” criminal investigations and prosecutions, to provide support for atypical criminal investigations and prosecutions, including Public Integrity cases, to assist the Special Crimes Division - Civil Section in connection with asset forfeiture cases arising from criminal cases handled by the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, and to offer assistance to law enforcement agencies and the other divisions of the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office in connection with the preparation and execution of search warrants. SCD Criminal Section presently consists of three attorneys, one investigator, and one secretary. Benjamin Smith received his undergraduate degree from Boston University’s College of Communication in 1996. He worked for several years as a technical writer before enrolling at Boston University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2002. While attending law school, Mr. Smith interned at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Criminal Bureau and worked part-time representing indigent clients in civil cases at Greater Boston Legal Services. In 2002, he was a visiting law student at Oxford University, England, where he studied Jurisprudence, Intellectual Property and Comparative Law. Upon obtaining his license to practice law in Texas, Ben worked as Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Kaufman County, where he was assigned to the County Court at Law and later the 422nd Judicial District Court. He joined the Collin County District Attorney’s Office in November 2004. Jessie Allen received his Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with minors in German and Economics from Baylor University in 2000. He received his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law in 2003 with a concentration in general civil litigation. He joined the Collin County District Attorney's Office in September 2003 serving the office as a misdemeanor prosecutor in County Courts at Law No. 1 and No. 2 before becoming Chief Prosecutor in County Court at Law No. 3. He is currently assigned to the civil section of the Special Crimes Division. Kurt Martin received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1992. He served his country as a United States Marine Corps Officer for eight years before attending law school. Mr. Martin graduated cum laude with his Juris Doctor from the Dedman School of law at Southern Methodist University in May 2005. While attending law school he was a member of the Southern Methodist University Criminal Defense Clinic and also interned with Southwest Sports Group Inc., the holding company for the Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. Mr. Martin began his career with the Collin County District Attorney's Office in November 2005. Mr. Adley completed his undergraduate education at Northwood University and received his Master’s degree from LeTourneau University. He was employed in the Felony Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office for nearly four years. He has been with the Collin Count District Attorney’s Office since 2003. In March of 2003, he joined the Hot Check Division where he screened all bad checks, forgeries, and white collar crimes. Investigator Adley joined the Special Crimes Division in September 2004, where he investigates criminal case including but not limited to white collar crimes, public integrity cases and capital murder cases. Mr. Adley has participated in over six capital murder cases and several death penalty cases. Felony Investigator Samme Glasby currently serves as Investigator for the 219th Judicial District Court. She began her career with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in 1991. Mrs. Glasby holds many certifications in law enforcement and is working on her Criminal Justice Degree at Cedar Valley College. Amanda Baker joined the District Attorney’s Office in 2005 as the Receptionist. Prior to becoming an employee of Collin County District Attorney’s office, she was an inventory control manager for the corporate office and a finance department auditor for a major mobile phone company in the Dallas area. She also held several part time administrative positions for small local companies. |
